Center for Molecular Safety Sciences
Background
The federal government, pharmaceutical companies, and health-related foundations invest $50 billion annually in human disease research.
Despite these investments, only a small number of new and more effective drugs reach the health care delivery marketplace to treat diseases globally.
North Carolina is home to four of the world's leading medical schools, burgeoning biotechnology and life sciences complexes anchored by Research Triangle Park, and new healthcare Centers of Excellence spanning the state.
There is a great opportunity and critical need to harness and integrate the collective power of these enterprises that will position North Carolina as a global leader in bringing new and safer medicines to the citizens of the state, nation, and the world.
The Path Forward
To fulfill this promise, The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences is proud to announce a unique partnership with Duke University, the University of North Carolina, federal government research and regulatory agencies, and a consortium of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies to create the Center for Molecular Safety Sciences on the 56-acre Hamner Campus site in the heart of Research Triangle Park.
This Center will be a major new force to translate the discoveries being made in research laboratories in the state and nation into treatments and cures for diseases that severely impact the quality of life for many of the citizens of this state, nation, and the world.
The Center has launched a business plan to attract a $110 million investment from the pharmaceutical industry and is developing partnerships with communities throughout the state to leverage the investments being made in life sciences research, cutting-edge technologies, education, and training.
The Center has received strong endorsements from the state's academic, government, and business leaders and is recognized as a driver for new economic development in North Carolina.
We are proud to call North Carolina home and to have this opportunity to give back to the people who have so generously placed their trust in us. For those who share our passion and support for The Hamner Institutes vision, we are seeking financial gifts for this new Center. Your gift will impact every citizen of this great state and make a profound difference in the lives of everyone who faces the challenge of life threatening diseases.
