Research
Under the guidance of Mr. Harvey Clewell, Dr. Melvin Andersen, and Dr. Cecilia Tan, my research will focus on the development of a "State of the Science" risk assessment for dibutylphthalate (DBP). Concern has arisen over recent research implicating DBP (as well as other phthalate diesters) in the disruption of testosterone production in the male fetus resulting in male reproductive malformations. The primary basis of this research will be the development of a human physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model to describe the prenatal and neonatal exposure to DBP. The DBP PBPK model will incorporate human metabolic parameters measured in vitro. Once completed, the PBPK model for DBP will be employed to investigate human exposure to DBP through interpretation of biomonitoring data.
