With The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, one of the first independent life sciences research and training campuses of its kind, our state is poised to host a renowned center for collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education where breakthrough discoveries are ultimately translated into improved and safer medicines so that children and adults worldwide may lead healthier lives.
In our state, indeed our country, there is a wealth of talent. By design, The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences (The Hamner) will mobilize partnerships among universities, businesses and government. This entity, which exists beyond the boundaries of the traditional university, provides the setting where leading academic institutions like Duke University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and other campuses in the UNC system can partner with the pharmaceutical and chemical industry and government to broaden support of biomedical research and education, and drive economic development. Through a seamless integration of basic and applied research, The Hamner completes a critical link in the translation of discoveries in the laboratory that will foster the development of new medicines and inform policies to protect human health and prevent disease.
